Fine artist Jamy Kahn began her art career at the height of the neo-expressionist movement and debuted with her first show in Paris, France in 1986 at the Galerie Beau Lézard. Within that year, Jamy was chosen for a solo exhibit alongside Lily Tomlin during her one woman play “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe” at the James Doolittle Theatre in Los Angeles.
Shortly thereafter, Jamy joined forces with the highly respected Stella Polaris Gallery in Los Angeles. Within this esteemed stable of artists, Kahn was chosen to show her work alongside Andy Warhol’s original works, by gallery curator and owner, Peter Nelson.
Throughout her life’s path, Jamy has been profoundly influenced by her studies in architecture, hypnotherapy and psychology and is a very active and a deeply passionate artist. A graduate of UCLA in Environmental / Architectural Design, Jamy’s diverse background influences her work in a complex and purposeful manner.
Through the years, Jamy has sought to revitalize rather than abandon her expressionist legacy. By adopting innovative technologies and her own brand of combines, Jamy’s evolution is flexible and uninhibited. She is sincerely emotive, and views her art as an opportunity to support and uplift the spirits of others.
Kahn often creates large canvas surfaces and then extracts sections of painted areas which represent a particular emotion, thought or mindset. Her architectural background makes it’s way into her colorful and primary mediums of painting, wall sculpture and constructions, often drawing connections between the three.
Her background in psychology reflects her interest in our life’s path and purpose. She attempts, through craft and intuitive mark-making, to visualize the unconscious and metaphysical.
Kahn’s fascination with languages aids in conveying many stories throughout her art, leaving us to our own imagination. She loves plays on words and utilizes letters, languages, and double entendres. Her richly painted, luxurious “vessels” serve as icons which represent rituals of sharing and bringing people together. Through her art and her life, Jamy is focused on the phenomena of choice and change.
